No Barfi without its Murphy

Off late, the trailer release of Anurag Basu’s next ‘Barfi’ was a high octane dramatic promotional stint as Priyanka Chopra started making the countdown on a popular social networking site. While there were millions of eagerly awaiting fans who wanted to get hold of the trailer, the trailer released before the speculated time, a first of its time. Well in Bollywood, coming late is so in vogue. But doing things before time has been a passé!
Whatever, the trailer has absolutely gone viral on net and is definitely touted as the best trailer of the year. The film, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Piggy Chops and south starlet Illeana D’ Cruz in pivotal roles is a story about a deaf and dumb boy Murphy, played by Bollywood’s Casanova RK. The trailer beautifully captures the theme of the film and is very cleverly made. Based on its uniqueness, it has already received almost a million hits in just 2 days of its release.
At a recent promotional event the film’s director Anurag Basu stated that he would not have Barfi if Ranbir would not have signed the film. He had kept Ranbir in mind while developing the character of Murphy who is a strong willed happy go lucky guy in the film. Calling Ranbir spontaneous and naughty, he also confessed that he can never be angry on Ranbir for too long. On the last day of the shoot, Ranbir bid goodbye to all with a nice hug gifted to every crew member which according to Anurag was a testament to the good spirit that imbibes the Kapoor starlet.
Given the trailers, the stellar star cast and the excellent storyline Barfi is packing in the right punch and we hope it lives upto all the expectations that it triggered with its first promo. ‘Barfi’ also has Piggy Chops playing a mentally challenged girl and her role is kept under wraps. Everything about PC’s character is hush-hush since the film maker wants to reveal about her character only prior to the film’s release date, that is scheduled on September 14^th.
